Leadership grows when young people step beyond what is familiar, encounter new perspectives, and discover how their ideas can contribute to a wider world. From 19 to 25 July 2026, students from BINUS SCHOOL Simprug, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, and BINUS SCHOOL Semarang travelled to Singapore to take part in the 17th Hwa Chong Asia-Pacific Young Leaders Summit (HC-APYLS), hosted by Hwa Chong Institution. Coming together as one BINUS SCHOOL Education delegation, our students joined young leaders from 22 schools across 13 countries under this year’s theme, “Intelligence by Design, Humanity by Intent.” Learning Beyond Borders Throughout the week, our students explored global issues, innovation, and cultural perspectives alongside peers from around the world. Visits to AI Singapore, the Institute of Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Singapore Management University, Enabling Village, and HDB Hub brought these ideas to life, while cultural masterclasses, interactive activities, and Summit Dialogues on multiculturalism and cybersecurity encouraged students to think critically and connect across cultures. Learning from Leaders and One Another The summit also provided opportunities for students to hear directly from leaders across government, defence, business, and technology. The Opening Ceremony welcomed Mr. Chee Hong Tat, Singapore’s Minister for National Development, while VADM Aaron Beng, Chief of Defence Force for the Singapore Armed Forces, joined the Closing Ceremony. Students also gained insights from Summit Dialogue speakers Mr. Malminderjit Singh, Founder and Managing Director of Terra Corporate Affairs, and Mr. Gaurav Keerthi, CEO of StrongKeep Cybersecurity. Just as meaningful was the opportunity to learn from fellow students. Conversations with young people from different countries helped our delegates experience what global citizenship looks like in practice: communicating across differences, exchanging ideas openly, and finding common ground. Bringing the Learning Home This year’s participation was made even more meaningful by seeing students from four BINUS SCHOOL campuses come together as one delegation. While they came from different school communities, they came together as one BINUS SCHOOL Education delegation, bringing shared values and perspectives onto the international stage. Experiences such as HC-APYLS reflect what it means to be Purpose-Driven, Future-Ready, with the confidence to engage with different perspectives, the curiosity to keep learning, and the awareness to use that learning meaningfully. For our delegates, the journey continues beyond Singapore as they bring these experiences back into their schools, communities, and the choices they make as young leaders. Sherrierose Garcia Gonzales, Director of BINUS SCHOOL Education, challenges schools to move beyond the noise of constant innovation and focus on what truly matters: alignment, clarity, and sustainable impact. Sherrie was among the keynote speakers at Education Day, hosted by Singapore International School PIK on 20 April 2026. The event brought together prominent educators and thought leaders, including Prof. Richardus Eko Indrajit, Chancellor of Pradipta University, to exchange ideas on the evolving landscape of education. Sherrie delivered a compelling keynote on The Discipline of Innovation: Why High-Performing Schools Don’t Do More, They Do It Better. During her keynote, she challenged educators and school leaders to look beyond the volume of initiatives and focus on what genuinely drives learning. At a time when schools are under constant pressure to adopt new tools and technologies, the real issue is not the pace of change, but the lack of alignment that often accompanies it. “We are doing a lot, but we are not sure what is genuinely working or what is genuinely making a difference. Activity is high. Clarity, not necessarily,” said Sherrie. She observed that when innovation becomes additive rather than intentional, teachers are left overwhelmed and students experience inconsistency across classrooms. To move forward, she believes every school should shift towards fewer but stronger initiatives, clear shared expectations that still allow teacher flexibility, and measuring success by actual learning impact rather than the number of programmes running. “It is not what we introduce that defines our school. It is what we are able to sustain,” she concluded. Young people across the world are playing an increasingly crucial role in responding to a rapidly changing global landscape. They are expected not just to understand global challenges, but to actively help solve them. It was this belief that set the stage for the Asia-Pacific Young Leaders Convention (APYLC) 2026, hosted by BINUS SCHOOL Education at BINUS SCHOOL Serpong from 20 to 24 April 2026. Now in its ninth year, the convention brought together delegates from Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, and China, with students from BINUS SCHOOL Simprug, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, and BINUS SCHOOL Semarang joining peers from Kaichi High School, Nan Chiau High School, and Changshu Lunhua Senior High School for five days of cross-cultural dialogue, leadership development, and collaborative problem-solving. A Theme Rooted in Purpose This year’s convention centred on the theme “Root for Change: Feeding Minds, Healing Communities, Empowering Futures,” directing student discussions towards three United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: “This year’s APYLC theme reflects the importance of a holistic approach in addressing global challenges. Through this platform, we aim to encourage young people to understand the complexities of today’s global landscape and develop solutions that are not only innovative, but also sustainable.” Sherrierose Garcia Gonzales, Director of BINUS SCHOOL Education Setting the Stage The convention opened on 20 April with a keynote address by Irene Umar, Vice Minister of Creative Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, who underscored why gatherings like this matter. “APYLC is not just a convention, but a starting point for young people to take ownership of the future they want to build. Addressing global challenges requires collaboration and a deeper understanding of the problems within our communities, so we can create meaningful impact for the world.” Irene Umar, Vice Minister of Creative Economy, Republic of Indonesia Delegates worked in cross-cultural teams throughout the week to develop actionable solutions addressing each of these global concerns. “We are incredibly proud to see our students from across BINUS SCHOOL Education campuses, alongside their international peers, engage so passionately in APYLC 2026. This convention serves as a vital platform for them to evolve into future-ready leaders who can navigate global challenges through creative thinking and strong cross-cultural collaboration.” Corey Allison, Secondary School Principal of BINUS SCHOOL Serpong Beyond the Classroom Leadership sessions and academic discussions were only part of the story. Delegates also had the opportunity to explore Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage, visiting the Mangrove Forest and the National Museum, and experiencing traditions like Batik-making, Wayang, Angklung, and traditional games firsthand.                 BINUS SCHOOL Education remains committed to providing learning experiences that are relevant to global needs through leadership development and international collaboration. BINUS SCHOOL Education held the 4th BINUS Educators Conference, in partnership with the Mentari Group, on 30–31 January, bringing together educators to explore the future of learning under the theme “Celebrating Human Learning in the Age of AI.” The two-day event provided an international forum for reflection on the evolving role of educators as Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to reshape global education systems. The conference was attended by 500 educators from BINUS SCHOOL campuses in Simprug, Serpong, Bekasi, Semarang, and Surabaya, alongside teachers from 90 schools across Indonesia. With the total participation exceeding 730 local and international educators, the event fostered meaningful cross-cultural dialogue and the exchange of diverse educational perspectives. Through a series of keynote addresses and panel discussions, the conference focused on how educators can adapt to rapid technological change while preserving the human values essential to effective learning. The theme underscored the belief that AI should serve as an enabler of education, supporting critical thinking, creativity, and character development, rather than replacing the human elements of teaching and learning. The highlight of the conference was the keynote session by international education expert Dr. Jennifer Chang Wathall, titled “Reimagining Learning: AI-Powered Pedagogy for the 21st Century Classroom.” Her presentation explored how AI can be integrated into pedagogical practices to create more personalized, inclusive, and impactful learning experiences. She emphasized that while AI offers powerful tools for education, with teachers remaining central in guiding students to use technology ethically and thoughtfully. Commenting on the conference, Sherrierose Garcia Gonzales, Director of BINUS SCHOOL Education, highlighted the importance of collaboration among educators in navigating the challenges and opportunities presented by AI. “This conference is about exchanging ideas and developing strategies for moving forward as AI tools become increasingly widespread. As educators, we must ensure that students are not merely users of technology, but active creators who can navigate AI intelligently and responsibly in today’s world,” she said. Through this conference, BINUS SCHOOL Education reaffirmed its commitment to advancing professional learning for educators and delivering future-ready education, while keeping human-centered learning at the heart of innovation.

It was a truly build-tastic and action-packed day across BINUS SCHOOL Serpong and BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi as young innovators gathered for an exciting round of the annual LEGO Competition. At Serpong, the event was joined by enthusiastic participants from both the Serpong and Simprug campuses, while Bekasi hosted its own spirited competition filled with creativity and teamwork. Altogether, a total of 220 talented participants took part, each with the exciting opportunity to advance toward the ultimate prize, an unforgettable trip to LEGOLAND. From the moment participants arrived, the atmosphere buzzed with anticipation. Tables were lined with colorful bricks, and students wasted no time diving into their projects, assembling towers, robots, futuristic cities, and imaginative story worlds. The competition challenged students not only to build impressive structures but also to think critically, plan strategically, and bring their ideas to life under time pressure. Teachers, parents, and peers gathered around to cheer them on, creating an encouraging environment where every child felt supported. Judges had the tough task of evaluating the entries, as each creation reflected the builders’ ingenuity and unique perspectives. Students demonstrated remarkable attention to detail, creativity in design, and confidence as they explained the inspiration behind their builds. Whether working individually or in teams, Binusians displayed the core values of collaboration, perseverance, and innovative thinkin, qualities BINUS SCHOOL strives to foster in every learner. At the end of the event, six exceptional students were named winners, earning them a well-deserved spot in the Grand Final. This achievement brings them one step closer to the exciting grand prize: a memorable trip to Singapore’s LEGOLAND. Their victory is a testament to their dedication and the countless hours of imaginative exploration they have invested in their passion for building. However, the competition was more than just a contest. It was an opportunity for students to learn, experiment, express themselves, and build confidence. Events like this reinforce the importance of play-based learning, where creativity and critical thinking come together in meaningful ways. Through LEGO, students grasp concepts related to engineering, spatial awareness, storytelling, and design, skills that will benefit them far beyond the classroom. BINUS SCHOOL celebrates not only the winners but also every participant who stepped forward and shared their creativity with the community.
