Sungai Harapan Project, BINUS SCHOOL Simprug Students Drive Change For a Sustainable Future

Sungai Harapan Project, BINUS SCHOOL Simprug Students Drive Change For a Sustainable Future

River pollution has become a growing concern as waste continues to accumulate in waterways, causing serious environmental damage. Many people still dispose of rubbish in rivers without considering the long-term consequences. This harmful habit not only pollutes the water but also contributes to flooding, unpleasant odours, and harm to aquatic life. Rivers play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance and providing water for communities, yet they are often treated as dumping grounds. If this issue is not addressed, it could lead to severe environmental problems, affecting both nature and human health. One example of a polluted river is the one located in Permata Hijau, South Jakarta. Over time, large amounts of waste have accumulated, disrupting the river’s natural flow and harming the surrounding ecosystem. Floating rubbish, plastic waste, and other pollutants have turned the river into an unsightly and unhealthy environment. The accumulation of waste does not only affect the river itself but also the people who live nearby. Polluted water can become a breeding ground for diseases and contribute to poor sanitation conditions. Recognising the urgency of this issue, students from BINUS SCHOOL Simprug through Sungai Harapan project have taken the initiative to install a trash barrier along the river. Their goal is to reduce pollution, improve water quality, and raise awareness about the importance of keeping the environment clean. The trash barrier is designed to trap floating waste before it spreads further downstream, making cleanup efforts more manageable. By preventing rubbish from piling up, the barrier helps restore the river’s natural flow and improve water quality. However, this project is not just about cleaning up the river; it also serves as a platform for education and awareness. The students in Sungai Harapan project involved hope that by taking action, they can inspire others to be more responsible when it comes to waste disposal and environmental conservation. Small changes in daily habits, such as disposing of rubbish properly and reducing plastic use, can significantly contribute to keeping rivers clean. Beyond the environmental benefits, this initiative also aligns with BINUS’ mission to empower and foster positive change within communities. By participating in this project, students are developing valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership, and social responsibility. Their efforts go beyond improving just one river; they are setting an example for others to follow. Community involvement is crucial in tackling pollution, and projects like this show that even small steps can lead to meaningful change. Solving river pollution requires the collective effort of individuals, communities, and local authorities. While projects like the trash barrier in Permata Hijau are a great start, long-term commitment is necessary to achieve lasting improvements. Governments and environmental organisations must work together to create stricter regulations on waste management and promote sustainable practices. At the same time, individuals can contribute by reducing plastic use, disposing of waste properly, and participating in clean-up activities. With continuous action and greater awareness, it is possible to restore polluted rivers and create a healthier, greener future. Every effort, no matter how small, contributes to the bigger picture of environmental sustainability. By working together, society can protect and preserve natural resources for future generations.

BINUS SCHOOL Serpong Proves Generation Z and Alpha Are Creative and Resilient Through School Production

BINUS SCHOOL Serpong Proves Generation Z and Alpha Are Creative and Resilient Through School Production

The term “strawberry generation,” originating from Taiwan, is often used to describe Generation Z and Generation Alpha as individuals who are easily stressed and mentally fragile. The term “strawberry” symbolises something beautiful and appealing, yet easily bruised or damaged under pressure. This perception suggests that these generations struggle to handle criticism effectively. Challenging this stigma, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong once again presents its annual School Production, a grand theatrical performance involving students from Early Years, Primary, and Secondary, as well as teachers, staff, and parents. Taking place at Sjuman Hall, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong, South Tangerang, on Saturday (22/02/2025), this year’s School Production features a musical drama titled “The Rise of the Houses.” The performance tells the story of four elemental forces that must overcome their conflicts and unite to achieve a common goal. The dedication and perseverance of BINUS SCHOOL Serpong students in organising the School Production debunk the strawberry generation stereotype. Throughout the year-long preparation process, students from Early Years to Secondary levels have demonstrated mental resilience, overcoming challenges, difficulties, and exhaustion to deliver a spectacular performance. Beyond being an artistic showcase, the School Production serves as a platform for students to learn business skills and develop their mental endurance. Students are trained to plan, manage, and execute a creative project, transforming it into an engaging performance. The process teaches them to build an event from scratch, oversee its execution, and ensure its success. BINUS SCHOOL Serpong Director, Gerald Donovan, emphasised that this initiative aims to break societal misconceptions about the strawberry generation while enhancing students’ creative project management skills. Additionally, it provides Generation Z and Alpha with an opportunity to prove their resilience and capabilities in a real-world setting. “Many people say that today’s younger generation lacks leadership, perseverance, and resilience. Today, we proved them wrong. BINUSIAN students have demonstrated their ability to conceptualise an idea from start to finish—spending hours rehearsing, trying new things, failing, and rising again. This makes us incredibly proud of the young BINUSIAN generation,” said Gerald Donovan, Director of BINUS SCHOOL Serpong. This year’s School Production, “The Rise of the Houses,” is inspired by BINUS SCHOOL Serpong’s House system, which consists of Bear, Tiger, Shark, and Eagle. The purpose of these Houses aligns with BINUSIAN values, fostering solidarity and unity among students. The Production Chair, Shivangi, highlighted that the one-year preparation process for the performance has forged a strong and cohesive team, providing valuable experiences and lessons that will serve as important assets for the future. Additionally, Shivangi herself found personal growth, particularly in leadership and problem-solving skills. “Through this production, we have learned so much. Not only did we enhance our creativity, but we also developed leadership and teamwork skills that were directly implemented in this musical drama,” said Shivangi. By organising the School Production, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong not only provides students with a platform to cultivate creativity but also equips them with business skills and mental resilience—essential qualities for the real world. This initiative aligns with BINUS SCHOOL Serpong’s commitment to delivering holistic education, nurturing entrepreneurial spirit, and shaping students into resilient and adaptable individuals.

Promoting Emission Reduction: BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi Students Introduce Solar-Powered Streetlights in School Area

Bekasi, October 30, 2024 – Renewable energy, recognised for its environmentally friendly nature, is emerging as a solution to address the challenges posed by conventional energy sources. Among the many examples of renewable energy is solar energy, which harnesses sunlight directly from nature. With a strong drive to advance renewable energy, Bryan, a 12th-grade student at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, embarked on research into the utilisation of solar energy. From an early age, Bryan demonstrated a keen interest in developing renewable energy solutions to replace fossil fuels, which are known for their long-term negative impacts on the environment. During his research, Bryan received support from his science teacher, Mr. Nugroho, and collaborated with school staff, Mr. Khalim. Youth Pledge Day at BINUS SCHOOL Semarang: Students Perform Gamelan, Traditional Dance, and a Wayang Show!

Youth Pledge Day, celebrated annually on 28 October, serves as a significant occasion for young Indonesians to come together to strengthen national unity. Originating from the historic Second Youth Congress, which united diverse ethnic groups across Indonesia, Youth Pledge Day is now commemorated each year to encourage young people, especially those from Generation Z and Generation Alpha, who will play crucial roles in Golden Indonesia 2045 to honor the nation’s history. On 28 October 2024, BINUS SCHOOL Semarang took a unique approach to celebrating Youth Pledge Day. The Nihon Club welcomed students, teachers, and staff with Indonesian hero-themed cosplay. The festive atmosphere was enhanced by gamelan music played by the Javanika Club. The Knightly Readers Club then brought history to life with a retelling of the Youth Pledge story through a mini wayang performance. The celebration continued with a traditional Javanese dance by the Sync’d Club, accompanied by the Javanika Club’s gamelan ensemble. Before concluding, the Student Council of BINUS SCHOOL Semarang led a recitation of the Youth Pledge, honoring the historic event 96 years ago. Fostering Outstanding Students, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong Integrates AI Technology and Wellbeing into Education

Fostering Outstanding Students, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong Integrates AI Technology and Wellbeing into Education

Serpong, 25 October 2024 – In the fast-evolving educational landscape, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong is embracing change and positioning itself as a leader in educational innovation in Indonesia. As AI, automation, and evolving career landscapes reshape the world, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong is preparing students not just for today’s challenges, but for a future where their teammates may not even be human. The new Director of BINUS SCHOOL Serpong, Gerald Donovan says that the era of memorising facts and figures is behind us, and BINUS SCHOOL Serpong is preparing all the students for a world where they will need to continuously learn, adapt, and innovate. With over 30 AI tutors integrated into the learning environment, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong is pioneering personalised learning, allowing each student to learn at their own pace. Donovan highlights the transformative potential of AI in education. “In traditional classrooms, teaching often targeted the middle of the class—some students were bored, others overwhelmed. AI helps us challenge each student just beyond their current ability, fostering real growth and engagement,” said Donovan. Combining Academic and AI Donovan recognises that the pathways to success have shifted dramatically with the rise of AI and automation. such as medicine, engineering, and business—some of the careers traditionally seen as stable—are among the most likely to be impacted by AI. “At BINUS SCHOOL Serpong, we’re preparing students for the unknown future by teaching them to think critically, collaborate, and embrace lifelong learning,” said Donovan. This semester, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong is rolling out a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program for students in Grade 4 and above, with a long-term vision of integrating technology into every classroom. The school has also invested heavily in teacher training and infrastructure to ensure a smooth transition and maximum impact. Despite the shift toward AI and technology, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong remains grounded in its core SPIRIT values—Striving for excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, Respect, Innovation, and Teamwork. These are the values that machines cannot replace. “In a world of instant gratification, perseverance is especially crucial. We’re teaching our students that nothing worth having comes easy, and that’s a lesson technology alone can’t deliver,” said Donovan. As BINUS SCHOOL Serpong continues to evolve, Donovan is confident that the school will stay ahead of the curve. This is the third industrial revolution for education, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong is not just preparing students for exams, but also preparing students for life, equipping them with the skills and resilience they need to thrive in a world of constant change. One of the students from BINUS SCHOOL Serpong, Meghan Lee Hidayat, mentioned that the learning approach at BINUS SCHOOL is designed to be both enjoyable and relevant to the current era. “At school, we often have exciting new experiences, such as using AI technology to assist in the classroom. Although technology plays a significant role in our learning, fundamental values such as respect, perseverance, and integrity are still instilled in us,” said Meghan. Student Well-Being Programme  In addition to technology, student well-being is a key focus of the Student Well-Being Programme. The Student Well-Being Programme focuses on supporting students emotionally, socially, and academically. It provides a system of tiered support to help manage behavioral issues and create a positive school environment where students can thrive in all areas of life. A key part of the program is the tiered behavioral management system, which offers different levels of support based on individual student needs. This helps students develop positive behaviors and life skills like time management, emotional control, and communication through personal management workshops. Aligned with the Cambridge Primary Well-Being Curriculum Framework, the program also teaches life skills to help students handle everyday challenges. Overall, it aims to ensure that students grow both academically and personally, building resilience and social skills for a balanced and thriving future. By combining technology with well-being support, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong creates a balanced environment where students thrive both academically and emotionally, ensuring they are discovering new horizons and well-prepared for future success.
