BBPB at Marunda Beach: Cleanup and Creative Plastic Recycling with Local Children

BBPB at Marunda Beach: Cleanup and Creative Plastic Recycling with Local Children

BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi students recently made a tangible impact on our community and environment through the impactful BBPB Cleanup at Marunda Beach. BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi do not only care about the academic journey of our hardworking students. We also advocate for students’ contributions in their areas of interest. Besides LOKAVITA and ADVOCARE, our students also extended their positive influence into the environmental sector. They joined the BBPB Cleanup Club. Recently, they visited Marunda Beach and did the Beach Cleanup together while promoting awareness of the environmental impact of trash across the beach. BBPB Takes Action for a Cleaner Coastline Source : Binus Bekasi School This vital initiative was driven by BBPB (BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi’s student-led movement against single-use plastic bags), showcasing their proactive commitment to environmental stewardship. BBPB stands for Bye Bye Plastic Bag and is a movement to reduce plastic garbage in response to the negative impact of plastic. This organisation’s general goal is to actively protect the environment and raise crucial awareness about waste, especially plastic pollution. In BBPB BINUS SCHOOL, Bekasi, the student members demonstrate their dedication through their own BBPB initiative. During their activity at Marunda Beach, their day involved both a thorough trash cleanup along the shores and engaging in educational activities with local children, focusing on creative ways to manage plastic waste. They divided into 3 Clean Up teams that worked across different areas of the beach, finding, collecting, and sorting plastic garbage they found and grabbed. Every piece of litter removed was a significant step toward ocean conservation and safeguarding the environment from harmful plastic. It showcased their strong commitment against plastic waste, which directly aligns with BBPB’s core mission. It was a day filled with positive interactions, learning, and making new friends spearheaded by the passionate students of BBPB. Their participation in joining a student-led initiative through BBPB enables them to take ownership of significant social and environmental issues. This initiative truly exemplified BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi’s empowering environment, fostering student-led initiatives that enable them to take ownership of significant social and environmental issues. BBPB Educates and Engages the Next Generation Beyond the physical cleanup, the BBPB from BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi initiative included a vital educational component for the local children of Marunda. Our students, forming an “Education Team,” led engaging activities designed to instil environmental awareness from a young age. They coached children to transform the plastic garbage into something fun or functional. At the time, they painted plastic bottles with vibrant colours together. This activity nurtures creativity and also highlights the potential for these discarded items to be reused rather than simply thrown away. Furthermore, BBPB students taught the children how to transform plastic bottles and their lids into toy cars using wooden sticks. It served as a demonstration of practical recycling and the value of repurposing, which is now an urgent action to practice in daily life. Their interaction with local kids encourages friendships and showcases BBPB BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi’s role as active community educators. Correspondingly, it’s extending their impact beyond cleanup to actively involve the wider community in sustainable practices. This commitment aims to awaken the children’s spirit to maintain cleanliness and inspire them to be more creative in processing unused items, especially plastic. Source : Binus Bekasi School More Than Just a Cleanup: BBPB’s Commitment to Change The BBPB Cleanup at Marunda Beach was far more than just a typical cleanup; it was an eye-opening journey into ocean conservation and the broader impact of waste. Through a combination of clean-up action and an education session approach, our students’ BBPB initiative aimed to deepen understanding and raise awareness about the pervasive effects of plastic pollution on our environment. This powerful student-driven movement is fueled by the students’ unwavering commitment to this critical cause and reinforces that their actions are driven by passion and a desire for meaningful change. To this extent, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi prides itself on fostering student-driven movements like BBPB that address critical environmental issues with genuine passion and dedication. Sustainable Future through Students’ Initiative Although BBPB at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi is an extension of the BBPB Jakarta organisation, our students’ actions show another level of engagement and devotion. Their awareness powerfully reinforced themes of environmental protection, active community engagement, and the vital role of student-led action against single-use plastic. Their routine programme embodies the impactful contribution to the environment and also to the local community. The “waves of change” created by BBPB at Marunda Beach emphasises BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi’s commitment to empowering students to become holistic leaders who are not only strong in innovation but also have ethical standards of environmental contribution and community participation.
