BINUS SCHOOL Serpong Proves Generation Z and Alpha Are Creative and Resilient Through School Production

BINUS SCHOOL Serpong Proves Generation Z and Alpha Are Creative and Resilient Through School Production

The term “strawberry generation,” originating from Taiwan, is often used to describe Generation Z and Generation Alpha as individuals who are easily stressed and mentally fragile. The term “strawberry” symbolises something beautiful and appealing, yet easily bruised or damaged under pressure. This perception suggests that these generations struggle to handle criticism effectively. Challenging this stigma, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong once again presents its annual School Production, a grand theatrical performance involving students from Early Years, Primary, and Secondary, as well as teachers, staff, and parents. Taking place at Sjuman Hall, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong, South Tangerang, on Saturday (22/02/2025), this year’s School Production features a musical drama titled “The Rise of the Houses.” The performance tells the story of four elemental forces that must overcome their conflicts and unite to achieve a common goal. The dedication and perseverance of BINUS SCHOOL Serpong students in organising the School Production debunk the strawberry generation stereotype. Throughout the year-long preparation process, students from Early Years to Secondary levels have demonstrated mental resilience, overcoming challenges, difficulties, and exhaustion to deliver a spectacular performance. Beyond being an artistic showcase, the School Production serves as a platform for students to learn business skills and develop their mental endurance. Students are trained to plan, manage, and execute a creative project, transforming it into an engaging performance. The process teaches them to build an event from scratch, oversee its execution, and ensure its success. BINUS SCHOOL Serpong Director, Gerald Donovan, emphasised that this initiative aims to break societal misconceptions about the strawberry generation while enhancing students’ creative project management skills. Additionally, it provides Generation Z and Alpha with an opportunity to prove their resilience and capabilities in a real-world setting. “Many people say that today’s younger generation lacks leadership, perseverance, and resilience. Today, we proved them wrong. BINUSIAN students have demonstrated their ability to conceptualise an idea from start to finish—spending hours rehearsing, trying new things, failing, and rising again. This makes us incredibly proud of the young BINUSIAN generation,” said Gerald Donovan, Director of BINUS SCHOOL Serpong. This year’s School Production, “The Rise of the Houses,” is inspired by BINUS SCHOOL Serpong’s House system, which consists of Bear, Tiger, Shark, and Eagle. The purpose of these Houses aligns with BINUSIAN values, fostering solidarity and unity among students. The Production Chair, Shivangi, highlighted that the one-year preparation process for the performance has forged a strong and cohesive team, providing valuable experiences and lessons that will serve as important assets for the future. Additionally, Shivangi herself found personal growth, particularly in leadership and problem-solving skills. “Through this production, we have learned so much. Not only did we enhance our creativity, but we also developed leadership and teamwork skills that were directly implemented in this musical drama,” said Shivangi. By organising the School Production, BINUS SCHOOL Serpong not only provides students with a platform to cultivate creativity but also equips them with business skills and mental resilience—essential qualities for the real world. This initiative aligns with BINUS SCHOOL Serpong’s commitment to delivering holistic education, nurturing entrepreneurial spirit, and shaping students into resilient and adaptable individuals.

Strengthening Wellbeing in the BINUSIAN Community, BINUS SCHOOL Semarang Holds Family Sports & Games Day

Strengthening Wellbeing in the BINUSIAN Community, BINUS SCHOOL Semarang Holds Family Sports & Games Day

The phenomenon of wellbeing refers to an individual’s condition of being physically, mentally, and socially well. According to the American Psychological Association (APA), wellbeing is a state in which an individual experiences happiness, satisfaction, and low stress levels. Wellbeing also reflects a good quality of life, enabling individuals to overcome challenges and experience fulfilment. In recent years, the concept of wellbeing has evolved into a global phenomenon, particularly in lifestyle, education, and the workplace. In the field of education, BINUS SCHOOL Semarang is committed to maintaining the wellbeing of every BINUSIAN, ensuring that they can take care of their physical, mental, and social health. To uphold this commitment, BINUS SCHOOL Semarang organises the Family Sports & Games Day for the entire BINUSIAN community, including students, parents, teachers, and staff. Held at BINUS SCHOOL Semarang, Central Java (22/02/2025), this event takes place annually to strengthen solidarity among BINUSIAN members. This year, Family Sports & Games Day carries the theme “Bee-ing Together, Buzzing with Fun”, symbolising togetherness and enthusiasm filled with joy. The solidarity-building activities are divided into five teams, commonly known as “Houses”. These five houses are Yudhistira, Bima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sadewa. Each team consists of students from Early Years to Secondary levels, meaning that students and parents from Early Years, Primary, and Secondary will represent their respective teams or houses. Family Sports & Games Day is filled with active and enjoyable activities, such as volleyball, fitness, sprinting, and more. Through these sporting activities, BINUSIAN cultivate sportsmanship and teamwork, while also promoting an active and healthy lifestyle, which aligns with BINUS SCHOOL Semarang’s commitment to maintaining the wellbeing of the BINUSIAN community. Additionally, this event demonstrates the BINUSIAN community’s commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by adopting a Zero Waste concept, strongly supported by the parent community at BINUS SCHOOL Semarang. Students, parents, and teachers bring their own water bottles and food containers to minimise waste, especially in the Bazaar area set up during the event. The Principal of BINUS SCHOOL Semarang, Ms Elsie L. Bait, emphasised that the Family Sports & Games Day plays a crucial role in building and strengthening the BINUSIAN community at BINUS SCHOOL Semarang. This event is particularly significant, as it involves not only students and teachers but also parents and staff, fostering a deeper sense of togetherness among all members of the BINUSIAN community. “Family Sports & Games Day is one of our initiatives to strengthen the solidarity among BINUSIAN members. This event features a series of active and enjoyable sports activities, allowing participants to collaborate and work together towards a common goal,” said Ms Elsie L. Bait. Furthermore, she added that Family Sports & Games Day serves as part of BINUS SCHOOL Semarang’s commitment to promoting the wellbeing of every BINUSIAN, ensuring that they remain in good physical, mental, and social condition. “This event is also a reflection of our commitment to maintaining the wellbeing of our BINUSIAN community. Health is a key factor in sustaining focus and encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle,” Ms Elsie L. Bait added. Through Family Sports & Games Day, BINUS SCHOOL Semarang hopes to strengthen the bond between students, families, and the BINUSIAN community in a lively and united atmosphere. More than just a sporting event, it is a valuable moment to foster solidarity, teamwork, and sportsmanship, all of which contribute positively to the character development of students.

Building Mental Resilience and Sportsmanship Across Schools, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi Hosts Bee-SB Cup 2024 Competition

Building Mental Resilience and Sportsmanship Across Schools, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi Hosts Bee-SB Cup 2024 Competition

Students’ skills in sports need continuous training, and one way to do that is by having competitions. These competitions help them see how good they are and teach them to be strong and fair when they play against different teams. To help students get better at sports, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi organized the Bee-SB CUP 2024 competition again from February 22-24. Students from other schools, including National Plus and Cambridge schools in Bekasi, were invited to join in. They could choose to compete in Basketball, Futsal, or Modern Dance. For two days, students struggled against each other in the court. But it wasn’t just about winning, they also learned a lot about the rules of the games and how to plan their strategies. Fazar Rizaldi, a teacher at BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, said this year’s Bee-SB CUP is the second time they’ve held it. BINUS SCHOOL wants to make friends with schools in Bekasi and hope this becomes a regular event. “We hope this becomes a gathering event for National Plus and Cambridge schools in Bekasi and its surroundings, and we also hope it becomes a regular event,” said Fazar. The theme for this competition is “Hive of Champions.” It’s a chance for BINUS to remind everyone about the SPIRIT (Striving for Excellence, Perseverance, Integrity, Respect, Innovation, dan Teamwork) values. And it’s also an opportunity for students to #DiscoverNewHorizons at BINUS SCHOOL.
