Empowering Youth for a Sustainable Tomorrow, Highlights from the SDG Summit 2024
BINUS SCHOOL Serpong, in collaboration with SDG Academy Indonesia, hosted an event, the SDG Summit 2024, from 29 February to 2 March. The summit brought together students from BINUS SCHOOL Simprug, BINUS SCHOOL Bekasi, BINUS SCHOOL Semarang, and St. John, united under the theme “Building Better Tomorrows: Implementing Sustainability to Shape a Responsible Future.”
At the heart of the summit was a project-based approach, empowering participants to showcase innovative solutions to nationwide challenges through various mediums such as drama, song, and presentations. But the journey began even before the main event. In the pre-event phase, students were equipped with a “SMART Goal” sheet to identify issues related to SDG Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). Each school group crafted TikTok videos to raise awareness about these issues, setting the stage for collaborative problem-solving.
During the three-day main event, mentorship played a crucial role. Participants were paired with mentors from SDG Academy Indonesia to guide them through their ideas and provide valuable feedback. Additionally, Day 1 featured a speaker session by Ms. Radhe Ayu Dewi Amerta Ratih, the Communication and Campaign Officer of SDG Academy Indonesia, who shared insights on community action towards the SDGs.
Following the main event, the top three groups advanced to a post-event held at the SDG Academy Indonesia office in central Jakarta. This public exhibition showcased the best project-based solutions, providing an opportunity for the participants to present their ideas to invited audiences. An awarding ceremony celebrated their achievements and commitment to driving sustainable change.
The 2024 SDG Summit stands as a prove to the power of youth-led initiatives in shaping a sustainable future. By fostering collaboration, innovation, and leadership among participants, the summit not only addressed current issues but also inspired a generation to become active agents of change.
